Administers and enforces the provisions of city codes applying to landscaping, signs, weeds, litter, land use, garbage, sewer connections, parking, and revenue.
Assists revenue department and law enforcement officials with violation issues and enforcement of codes.
Patrols the city to identify code violations; picks up illegal signs.
Reviews business licenses for compliance with zoning, parking, and buffer requirements; approves/disapproves business licenses.
Reviews zoning for sign permits; inspects size of building frontage to verify compliance with sign ordinances; approves/disapproves sign permits.
Notifies businesses of code violations; performs follow-up on code violations.
Responds to questions and complaints related to codes and violations; provides information, researches problems, and initiates problem resolution.
Provides education and information to the community about code requirements; meets with citizens, businesses, and other organizations for instruction on code compliance.
Processes a variety of documentation associated with departmental operations, per established procedures and within designated timeframes; distributes documentation or retains records as appropriate.
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, permits, tickets, or other documents.
Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, permits, business licenses, maps, manuals, code books, ordinances, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Operates a motor vehicle, shovel, measuring devices, two-way radio, personal computer, general office equipment, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, e?mail, Internet, or other computer applications.
Maintains file system of code violations and other departmental records.
Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service or assistance.
Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, city officials, law enforcement officials, planning commission, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction.
Attends meetings; serves on committees and makes presentations as needed.
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws/regulations; maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED; supplemented by vocational/technical training in municipal code inspection or enforcement; supplemented by 5 to 11 months previous experience and/or training involving municipal code inspection or enforcement; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama Driver's License.
Additional Information Physical Ability:
Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements:
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate depth and visual cues or signals.
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors:
Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature extremes, and traffic hazards.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
